In 2016, I’m going to spend more time listening. Yes, I want to listen to more podcasts, hear the sounds of birds in the trees and my children in my arms, but specifically I want to add value to my clients by listening.
It came to me as I read this quote from Kevan Gilbert how terribly I’ve been failing my clients. Please, read this wonderful quote from his website:
After spending years trying to pitch ideas to organizations all over the world, I've realized this: people don’t want to be persuaded. They want to be heard. It’s the calling of our era: to stop persuading and start listening.
It was a powerful message that hit home with me. Even as I spent the next day with my most important client I couldn’t shut up. And so, I’m dedicating the whole year to practicing this good habit. Those of you reading this, please hold me to account!
And, why don’t you sign up for emails from Kevan and help him launch his book! I can’t wait to learn from it.
