You might not know baseball well but I bet you’ve heard of a closer. It’s in our general culture, along with scores of other baseball terms. “That Harvey Spector is a closer, he gets clients to buy in”. And, while I detest the save stat that broadly tracks a relief pitchers ability to get outs to end a game with a close lead, I love the closer role.
These guys, coming out the bullpen, have ice running through their veins. They know that they need to hold a close lead time and time again or lose their job. They get paid much more than their buddies in the bullpen and near as much as starting pitchers who pitch almost twice as much per season.
We see it in life too. The ability to seal a deal. Get a firm commitment. The people who can not only persuade take an opportunity and close on it. That is a skill I want my daughter and son to have. It’s a skill that’s kept us fed and Frontier strong.
