Once or twice a year I find myself suckered into to sending in a proposal on an RFP (request for proposal). Almost always it’s been because I have been specifically asked to participate. And, I’ll be honest, I hate it.
Why is this the default practice of organizations reaching out to new suppliers? Can we create a more collaborative, open, honest environment for crafting a deal?
Every time I go through it I feel like I’m being asked to parade around in a swimsuit competition. What would be a more respectful method of forging a contract? I think RFPs need to be reinvented if ever we want organizations to search and form deep, lasting, mutually respectful relationships. As it stands, it’s almost perverse.
