“Remember that time when…?”
Research findings are making it undeniably clear that spending money on experiences is better than buying stuff. But, how much more obvious would the answer be be if it were phrased, “would you rather experience time travel, or buy stuff?”
10 summers ago I found myself in Scotland attempting to swim in the North Sea like my ancestors. I walked along St Andrews golf course and stole some grass clippings. I still remember much of that trip so clearly as it were yesterday.
Next week I’ll be boarding a train from Toronto to Montreal. I’m already imagining the stations and stops and sights and smells along the way and hopefully a decade from now I can still go back and experience those memories again.
Like me you probably have a good story about a bad experience that you would never give up. In contrast, I can’t stand thinking about bad purchases I’ve made on junk.
Experiences form you. Material purchases surrounds you.
