I don’t generally lock my door at home and I rarely lock my bike. Most importantly, I don’t pay for security when I have a choice. I don’t pay for Earthquake insurance and pay for the maximum deductible possible for my car insurance.
Over the last 15 years this has cost me some. I’ve never been burgled but I’ve had a bike stolen. Thankfully I’ve never been at fault in any accident yet either. No one has sued me or my business.
When I see locks it conjures up the injustice I feel against the industries that profit off our illogical fears. What’s more, I believe we would be less fearful if we were less attached to our possessions and less selfish.
Are you paying for security to protect against a very unlikely outcome?
