Ellie and Matthew, though brother and sister are quite different. Ellie at 6 1/2 seems to be twice Matthew's height. Ellie teeters around and flails when she runs while Matthew seems more solid than a rock and seems very physically advanced.
This fall I enrolled both of them in gymnastics and it's been one of the best decisions I could make. Putting aside MY desires for them to play a particular sport, gymnastics allows them to develop skills that will transfer to nearly anything (perhaps we can work on hand-eye coordination on our own time).
The best part? They both absolutely love it. It's 75 minutes every Friday afternoon (though Victoria Gymnastics had many times to choose from) where I get to sip coffee, laugh and cheer my kids. Next thing for us to add would indeed by a team-based sport but these little tykes are assigned to age-appropriate groups so it seems just fine for them to bond with their peers there.
All in all, a dad win if you ask me.
