Fast, brilliant, meticulous. These are the three traits I use to assess those I work with--whether they are a supplier, contractor, or an employee.
How fast are you? Do you reply immediately to emails, even just to confirm you’ll respond in-depth later? Are you known for getting projects done ahead of deadlines? Few are a 10/10 but if you’re slow, you'd better be brilliant and meticulous.
Do you absolutely excel at your vocation? Do you generate better ideas, better questions than your peers? Is your writing, design, programming the best of the bunch? Few are a 10/10, but if you’re not especially gifted, you'd better be fast and meticulous.
Do you have an eagle eye for detail and nary a mistake to your name? Do friends, family and colleagues point out your ability to spot the minutiae others miss? Few are a 10/10, but if you are error-prone, or have a hard time catching the mistakes of others on your team, you'd better be fast and brilliant.
The ‘geniuses’ of our world are likely known for two of these traits but fail miserably at the third. Which ones describe you? More importantly, how can you be a better version of what you are?
